The Makeup Cull

For some time now I have stared at my overly stuffed make up container and thought, 'I should do something about that', but I have this WEIRD thing going on where I hate to throw out things unless they're all finished. Like shampoo and conditioner for example. I am currently about half way through a bottle but I'm sick of it and want to try another brand, but I can't bring myself to buy any more until these bottles are done. Crazy? Maybe.

The tipping point with my makeup collection was when I fished around to the bottom of my bag and found a shimmery loose eyeshadow dust/powder that I think I bought... hmmmmm... at least 9 years ago. But its a super pretty, bronzey, neutral, go-with-everything colour and I love it. But the day after wearing it I noticed that the skin on my eyelids was all dry and flakey and just gross. Coincidence? Maybe. But I wasn't going to take any chances. In the bin that eyeshadow went. I think 9 years was a sufficient life for it.

I also decided to cull anything else that had been languishing in the dark depths of my makeup bag for too long. This is the cull:

And this is the new and improved makeup bag. No more overflowing mess! Hooray!!!

But now I have a list of new beauty products I need. One of them being a new foundation. Duh duh dahhh! I hate foundation shopping. I'm after something new. I am currently using Clinique but want to branch out a bit. Any suggestions?

I really want the Bobbi Brown BB cream. Tried this on at Mecca Cosmetica and it was amazing. Great coverage that lasted all day!

  1. I use Max Factor, it's reasonably priced and good for combination dry/oily skin! L xx

  2. Hey Cath, I don't wear makeup that often (or buy it that often either) but when I do I use Benefit 'record foundation' It comes in a cute little container that looks like a old school record. My friend Sophie put me onto it a couple of years ago and I've never looked back. Plus they also have other amazing products like their 'high beam
    luminescent complexion enhancer' XXXX Heffy

  3. This has inspired me to declutter my make up area, have so much crap in there I don't use.

I went from Clinique to Chanel & am pretty happy with the change. I think I'd like to try a mineral foundation though, I have sensitive skin & people rave about it. THere are too many choices though so am overwhelmed.

  5. Hmm I think it's about time I do this! I always seem to have a pile of strange colored eyeshadows etc but run out of the essentials without realizing! Have also been eyeing off Bb cream but can't decide it's a fad or not. Ive tried a lot of foundation over the last year to suit my sensitive skin and have actually Covergirl Advanced Radiance to be very nice at the moment! xx
