Farmer Finale and the Importance of Finding a Good Kisser

Sorry for the late post my sweets! Had to watch the Farmer Wants A Wife finale. Give me a bit of tacky reality TV centred around 6 farmers finding their 'true love', and I'm hooked.

This was the seventh season of Farmer and it didn't disappoint. Well, actually it did disappoint slightly with the blatant Cherry Ripe and Virgin Blue advertising hammering us throughout the series, etc but it was good for the cute farmers and juicy romances.

Farmer Frank was my fave... but then he pashed all three of his girls whilst on the home stay and I thought he was a bit of  a player. However, in the finale, he explained his actions, and it does make sense... He said he was looking for his life partner and he wanted to make sure they were good kissers because if you're going to be with someone for the rest of your life, you want to make sure that they're a decent kisser (needless to say he won me over again in the finale).

Its true, you do need a good kisser. I remember back in my uni days I liked this boy at uni, and it was all going great until we kissed. He went straight for the tongue pash and was ramming his tongue down my throat and it was awful! Needless to say, I broke it off after that. The bad kissing really turned me off.

Luckily for me, my Mr B is a bit of a good kisser, although our first kiss was a little awkward (there was alcohol involved, and a lot of nerves!!!).

I hope you all get lots of lovely kisses. C xo

Zusak makes me sob

Ok, so serious nerd alert here. I'm in a bookclub. And I LOVE it. We affectionately call it 'BC'. I think this is our fourth year of BC - some people have come and gone, there are some original members (like me) and there are lots of new members, including baby BCers. Friends of friends, work colleagues, babies. That's how we keep growing. People find out about our BC and want to be in it! That's how good it is.

So, each month someone 'hosts' BC - they pick the book that we read, the venue, date (usually the last weekend of the month) and time for BC. We all rock up, discuss the book, eat, drink, but mostly we gossip, we laugh, we catch up on each others lives. I look forward to BC every month and catching up with all of the girls, and this Saturday is our BC meet up.

We read (or in my case - are still reading) 'The Messenger' by Markus Zusak. Wow. Brilliant. Loving it. The quote above is from the book and is one of my faves. It actually triggered the tears I discuss below. I loved The Book Thief when we read it in 2009 year (I think it was 2009 - somebody correct me if I'm wrong!). The Messenger is very different to The Book Thief, but still great. Zusak has a way of bringing emotion and life into his characters and into the story. You truly feel connected to them. He is still to this day the only author that has made me sob, I mean really sob with big fat tears and a hot red face (that was The Book Thief - I highly recommend. I would actually say that The Book Thief is my favourite book). And Zusak has not failed with The Messenger. I cried. And I haven't even finished yet! Bah!

What about you? Have you ever cried whilst reading a novel?

CWA baking goodness

I baked this chocolate slice today (excuse blurry/dodgy photo!) from the excellence that is the Country Women's Association (CWA) Biscuits and Slices cookbook. Those ladies sure do know how to do good biscuit and slice. Recipe below.

We had some lovely visitors today - my old uni friend R and her tiny baby S. Baby S was so so tiny and so so adorable. She was born 5 weeks premature, so R and I had a lot to talk about (as Little Miss L was born 8 weeks premature).

Chocolate Slice

Ingredients
150 grams softened unsalted butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup self raising flour
1 tablespoon cocoa
1 cup cornflakes
1 cup dessicated coconut

Method
1. Heat oven to 180 degrees and grease a slice tin
2. Cream butter and sugar until white and fluffy
3. Sift in flour and cocoa
4. Add corn flakes and dessicated coconut and mix well
5. Press into slice tin and bake for 30 minutes
6. Ice with chocolate icing. I sprinkled extra coconut over the top to make it look pretty... well, ugly pretty.

Lip Service: Lucas Papaw Ointment

I seriously love this stuff. I never go a day without using it. I not only use it on my lips, but also on pimples, dry skin, burns, sores, blisters, Little Miss L's nappy rash... the list goes on! It works wonders.

All That Glitters

If I wasn't on a shopping ban, I'd be buying these pretty glittery things:

Kida Flats from Wittner

Talk of the Town clutch by Alannah Hill

Stila Glitter Eye Liner in Silver Lilac

p.s. Shopping ban is still going well 3 weeks in. When people doubt me it only makes me stronger. I think that my shopping bug is being satisfied by shopping for Little Miss L instead! Although I'm only buying things she needs and not going overboard. How responsible am I?
